artistic group from Youngstown will present the musical ‘Rent’ | News, Sports, Jobs

Several Youngstown arts organizations will collaborate on a production of the musical “Lease” next spring at the Powers Auditorium.

Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer and Tony Prize-winning musical will be directed by Matthew Mazuroski, associate professor of theater and directing at Youngstown State University and will be presented by Opera Western Reserve, Henry H. Stambaugh Association, Youngstown Playhouse and Youngstown. Symphony Society.

According to Mazuroski, “We are finalizing the creative and design team to bring this brash, brilliant and much-loved musical to life.”

The collaboration follows Playhouse’s production of “The Violet Color” at Powers in 2021, and Matt Pagac, chief executive and chief operating officer of the Stambaugh Association, said they hope to make these collaborative productions an annual tradition.

The auditions will take place at the beginning of January.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 27-29 and 2:30 p.m. April 30 at Powers, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Tickets range from $17 to $35 and are available now at the DeYor Box Office, online at and by calling 330-259-9651.

Discounts are available for Youngstown Playhouse 2022-23 Flex Pass subscribers, Youngstown Symphony Orchestra 2022-23 season subscribers and ticket purchasers for Opera Western Reserve’s production of “Bohemian” Friday at Stambaugh Auditorium.
