Launch of the Challenge program at Indian Creek HS | News, Sports, Jobs

WINTERSVILLE — The Challenge program will begin another year at Indian Creek High School with assemblies scheduled for Tuesday.

Students will gather in the auditorium beginning around 11 a.m., where officials from business partner and sponsor Huntington Bank will discuss the program and present awards to participants for attendance, STEM and community service, academic improvement and academic excellence.

“The Challenge program is about building lasting partnerships between business and education while introducing students to careers in their communities,” said teacher Julie Robinson. “This partnership contributes to the development of the workforce and the economy by motivating students to develop strong work habits necessary to succeed in school and in their future projects. The five categories that are communicated to students as building blocks of common work standards that they should be able to perform are attendance, STEM, community service, academic improvement, and academic excellence.

She said the assemblies would be held during the flexible sophomore, junior and senior times, while the winners of last year’s sophomore and junior classes would be awarded at that time. Among those recognized are Bryce Boyce, attendance for grades 10-11, and Hailey Doan, attendance for grades 11-12; Madeline Ujcich, STEM for grades 10-11, and Santosh Shaefer, STEM for grades 11-12; Nick Mauer, community service for grades 10-11, and Emma Morrison, community service for grades 11-12; Camryn Fray, academic enhancement for grades 10-11, and Scott Wilson, academic enhancement for grades 11-12; and Nick Maurer, academic excellence for grades 10-11, and Abigail Beegel, academic excellence for grades 11-12.

The bank presented $200 checks to graduates at the Seniors Banquet in May and recipients included Jacob Chichick, attendee; Kendall Driscoll, STEM and community service; Tiziere McGee, Academic Enhancement; and Sam Ratkovek, academic excellence.
