The 3 Most Popular Gigs and Companies Zoomers Wants to Work For

Say what you will about their obsession with TikTok and memes, but Gen Z hasn’t necessarily had it easy. Years of their youth have been overshadowed by the pandemic and now they are at the mercy of a confusing job market, with inflation raging and a recession in play.

What’s a Gen Zer caught in the storm of a turbulent economy to do? Ditch the big (and probably expensive!) city life, for starters.

According to a new report from Glassdoor, Gen Zers are happier living in smaller, cheaper cities. Here’s where they’re headed en masse, in order of popularity:

  • Scottsdale, AZ

  • Arlington, Virginia

  • Boise, Idaho

The only exception to the small town rule is San Francisco; Glassdoor found that this city still attracts Gen Z, despite being one of the most expensive locations in the country.

Gen Z may court small towns and their suburbs, but they love jobs at huge, sprawling corporations. Glassdoor found that Gen Z respondents most wanted to work at the following three companies:

  • Microsoft

  • Google

  • Morgan Stanley

All of these companies are attracting Gen Zers – in part with socially responsible commitments. They’re also gigantic, and none of them are headquartered in one of the humble cities that Gen Zers are drawn to, but in a time when remote working is becoming more normal, that may not necessarily be. a major obstacle.

New research from Glassdoor also revealed that Gen Zers have their eyes set on very specific roles within the giant corporations of their dreams. Here are the top three jobs Gen Z want:

  • Corporate Recruiter

  • Marketing Manager

  • Social Media Manager

Living big in the small town seems to be the philosophy of the new neighborhood kids, but do they really have a choice? Rents in major metropolises such as New York are soaring with no end in sight – and the same could be said for the broader cost of living in 2022.
